Philip Ackerman
Phil has over a decade of legal experience representing businesses, government agencies and individuals in a wide variety of litigation settings, including in trial and appellate courts around the country (both state and federal), as well as in arbitrations and mediations. Phil also has extensive experience in representing clients in criminal and civil investigations conducted by federal and state law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
Phil’s litigation experience includes construction, securities, insurance coverage and claims handling, ERISA, employment and restrictive covenants, transportation, education, bankruptcy, intellectual property, corporate governance and control, civil rights, and legal and medical malpractice.
Phil graduated magna cum laude from Tulane Law School in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and International Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991.
Phil has served as a volunteer member of the organizing committee of the Bucktown Arts Fest, a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting the arts in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. Phil has also coached numerous Chicago Park District youth baseball, tee-ball, basketball, and soccer teams.
A sample of Phil’s accomplishments are as follows:
- Obtained multi-million dollar judgment after trial in a restrictive covenant dispute.
- Prevailed at trial in the Delaware Chancery Court in a dispute between an LLC and one of its members.
- Represented mutual fund company in federal and state criminal investigations which resulted in no action being taken against client.
- Prevailed at trial in consumer fraud action.
- Prevailed in arbitration on behalf of seller of business assets in post-purchase dispute with national sporting goods company.
- Represented individual in criminal health care fraud trial resulting in dismissal of charges.
- Obtained dismissal on behalf of manufacturer in products liability case.
