Rachael Blackburn
Rachael has experience in both the public and private sectors, representing the federal government before federal courts and administrative boards, and private clients in international commercial litigation and arbitrations. Specifically, Rachael has represented insurance companies and reinsurers in contract disputes, coverage claims and fraud actions. As a trial lawyer with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Rachael’s work centered around contract formation and contract disputes.
Rachael graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2002 and received her B.A. in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999. Prior to joining Johnston Greene, Rachael litigated insurance and reinsurance disputes at Lovells.
Rachael volunteers her time by mentoring students at Holy Trinity High School.
Rachael’s specific experience includes:
- Representing insurance company against its reinsurer in a multi-million dollar action involving asbestos losses.
- Successfully defending international non-profit in trademark action before the American Arbitration Association.
- Serving as legal advisor on HUD contract worth $2.2 billion and successfully defending protests of those awards before the Government Accountability Office.
- Advising federal agency to ensure compliance with federal statutes and regulations.
- Represented global reinsurer in a contract dispute involving finite reinsurance.
- Represented a US subsidiary of a global reinsurer in an action to recover funds paid to an insurer involved in a fraudulent action.
